TaraVista Behavioral

Healthcare

project description

What started out as a conversation between a psychologist with a 30 year career and an architect who has been designed behavioral health facilities for three decades, resulted in a therapeutic, peaceful and successful behavioral health in-patient hospital.

TaraVista Behavioral Health Center is a recently completed, state of the art, 108 bed behavioral health in-patient hospital located in the serene landscape of Devens, MA. The facility features four 24 bed patient units, complete with reading rooms, aquariums, and distinctive colors. Each unit has a combination of single and double bedrooms to accommodate varying needs of patient census as well as a centralized open nurse station for better communication and monitoring between staff and patients.

The building is primarily two stories, however by keeping the building single story at the entry, the building is more approachable and welcoming than most other healthcare facilities.  The residential styled patient units are configured in a cruciform shape to provide staff with visual control of all patient spaces from the centrally located Nurse Station; Staff are able to monitor all hallways while being available to patients at all hours of the day. TaraVista also includes a Care Access Unit directly connected to the ambulance entry of the hospital, as well as a full administrative suite, public entry and lobby, a staff dining hall, a patient dining hall and a fitness center looking onto the landscaped courtyard.
