North Kingstown
Senior Center
project description
GMI Architects designed the Beechwood Center from masterplan to finishes with a focus on detail and functionality.
The Town of North Kingstown selected GMI Architects to provide feasibility study and full design services for their new beach-front senior center. The Center is one of four buildings in a beach-front civic complex which includes a bandstand, a community building , and an arts building. In addition to designing Beechwood, GMI also designed a new bandstand, identified required improvements for the existing beach toilet rooms, and coordinated site-wide improvements including two new on-site waste treatment systems (OWTS). The design team coordinated regulatory approvals with the RI Coastal Resource Management Council and the RI Department of Environmental Management.
Beechwood is used by the senior community as well as the Town Council and is available for rent for special events. Program areas include: a multi-purpose room to seat 220 people banquet style, an exercise room, green house, health screening room, two arts and crafts rooms, billiards room, computer training room, a card room, and administrative offices. In addition to providing basic services, GMI assisted in FF&E selection and coordination.
